Hello! I’m Meghann, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW #76970). I have provided social work services within the Sacramento region for over ten years. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from UC Davis, following which I re-evaluated my life in a big way and pursed a career in social work. I received my Masters of Social Work from Sacramento State University.
I have advanced training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy through the Beck Institute for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and hold a Perinatal Mental Health Certification (PMH-C) through Postpartum Support International.
Prior to private practice, I was a medical social worker in the Sacramento region for eight years. I worked in multiple healthcare systems including Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento, UC Davis Medical Center, and Yolo Hospice. Through that work, I had the opportunity to work with individuals and families from every walk of life and people at every age and stage in life. I supported people through many difficult situations including: coping with new, chronic, and terminal medical conditions, people struggling with mental health issues, and bereaved families. In addition to providing counseling, I guided patients in navigating healthcare systems, insurance systems, and governmental and community support resources, as well as providing psychoeducation and advocacy coaching.
In private practice, my approach is person-centered, which means you are in the driver’s seat; solution-focused, meaning we focus on mutually-defined goals; and trauma-informed, meaning I am attuned to any trauma you may have experienced in your life and how it may impact you now. I use evidenced-based modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI) and mindfulness skills.
Therapy is a safe place to express and process your complex emotions; however, it should also be a place where you gain skills to help you in navigate any future problems that life may throw at you. My role in our therapeutic relationship is to support you, but also to challenge you to grow and stretch yourself. I am a firm believer in the resilience of the human spirit. Sometimes that spirit can get lost inside of us or buried under the weight of our stressors - it happens to a lot of people. In therapy we will work together rediscover and embrace your spirit of resilience!
